Simon Wheeler has been named executive vice president of international business at Trupanion, a Seattle-based medical insurer for cats and dogs.
Wheeler, a 30-year veteran of the animal health industry, will join Trupanion in October from Agria Pet Insurance Ltd in Sweden. He will be based in the United Kingdom.
Trupanion’s dedication to international expansion is exemplified by this newly created role, which aims to treble its addressable market of veterinary hospitals by 2035.Wheeler will be responsible for developing Trupanion’s international plans for expansion across existing markets such as Australia, as well as driving entry and growth into new international markets such as Japan, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Western Europe as EVP of International Business.
Wheeler is presently the managing director of Agria Pet Insurance Ltd.,
where he is in charge of Agria Försäkring, the UK marketplace and underwriting branch. Wheeler has worked at Allianz Animal Health and Pinnacle Pet Health Care in the United Kingdom.
When they were both at Allianz in the UK, Wheeler and Trupanion’s Co-President Margi Tooth worked together.
“Simon has a plethora of knowledge and is a well-known figure in the world of pet insurance,” Tooth said.
“His addition to the team demonstrates Trupanion’s commitment to its international expansion objectives.
” He will be a huge help to our organization as a 30-plus year veteran of creating pet insurance companies.”
Aflac and Trupanion have established a partnership. While the alliance is now focused on its cooperation in the United States, it also provides a clear chance to investigate entering the Japanese market, where Aflac has consumers in one out of every four families.
Trupanion, which has over 600,000 pets registered, was founded in 2000 and provides medical insurance for cats and dogs in the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Trupanion’s patented platform allows it to pay veterinarians directly at the time of checkout in minutes.
Trupanion’s stock is traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol “TRUP.” Trupanion policies are issued in the United States by American Pet Insurance Co.,
a wholly owned subsidiary of Trupanion, and in Canada by Omega General Insurance Co.
Trupanion Australia is the result of a collaboration between Trupanion and Hollard Insurance Company.
